when i was 8 our family went to Georgia for the first time and i got to experience sweet tea – real tea, steeped, chilled and sweetened to the most delicious and refreshing drink. that moment started a love affair with iced tea. while you can’t find the same experience north of the border, i still occasionally treat myself with a can.
as a grownup, i’ve realized that the sweet tea flavour is also a good catalyst for an adult beverage.my friends at NESTEA agree, and want to celebrate over a cocktail…or mocktail…or two.
i love anything with fresh herbs, and after my experience with bourbon tasting, the mint tea julep recipe was the first I wanted to try.
mint tea julep
1 oz bourbon
1 oz nestea reduction
2 tbsp chopped mint
1 mint sprig
bring one cup of nestea to a boil, reduce heat to a simmer and cover pot until liquid reduces.
muddle chopped mint in the bottom of a glass.
add reduction and bourbon, stir.
fill glass with crushed ice and garnish with a mint sprig.
do you have a favourite bourbon cocktail?
