my nutrition is one thing that i’ve really been focusing one this last year and hemp seeds are bursting with omega-3 and omega-6 essential fatty acids that have heart health and anti-inflammatory benefits.
good fat is all the rage, people.
have you ever tried them? hemp hearts are nutty in flavour and can be sprinkled into salads, desserts, yogurts, cereals, and breads.
…or you can make delicious snack/dessert recipes with them.
i adapted this recipe – because i don’t really love raisins and had goji berries in my pantry. i also wanted to try making my own almond butter, mostly because i didn’t have any and i had a lot of almonds, but when you have a new food processor you can do cool things like that. i’m happy to report mission successful. it may also be the appropriate time to stop shaving. #hippielife
- 1 1/2 cup medium unsweetened coconut, toasted
- 1 cup almond butter
- 1 cup hemp hearts
- 1/3 cup pure maple syrup
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 cup goji berries (optional)
- 1/5 cup dark chocolate chips (optional – but not really)
toast coconut in a frying pan or in a 325F oven for 5-10 minutes until thoroughly browned and toasted.
mix the other ingredients in a bowl. once coconut had cooled, add and mix well.
press the mixture into a wax paper lined 8×8 baking pan and refrigerate for at least three hours.
once its set lift from pan and cut into 16 squares.
