Oh, Monday.

it’s been a rough few days in the Dalla Costa household (mom’s side), and it’s times like this that I feel so horribly selfish and stupid for moving so far away from family.

sister gave me some great advice to get through today:

it’s hard not to think about it. do something that makes you happy; listen to a great song, have a treat at one of those yummy bakeries.

today my happiness will come from Otis Redding and Bruno Mars, cups of strong and milky tea, email conversations with sister, my sixth Booty Camp session, the possibility of wine and dessert later, and looking at all of the beautiful and uplifting photos on Pinterest.

hug your loved ones for me. i’m not close enough to wrap my arms around anyone today, but they all have their hands in my heart.

I love me.

On a day where we are so consumed with loving others, I challenge you to take a moment for self-reflection and self-appreciation.

Stand up for that person in the mirror and see yourself through new eyes. If our perception defines our reality, identifying ourselves solely by our negative attributes only serves to blur our vision of our true selves.

Surround yourself with beauty in all its forms.

DSC_0594Begin a gratitude practice. We tend to give time and effort to the things we value. Regardless of how you currently feel about yourself, there is always something to be grateful for.

DSC_0607Don’t feel selfish to express genuine love for yourself, or afraid to feel it towards others.

Cupcakes for breakfast always help, too.

I love me! Love you, too. Happy Valentine’s Day!

What I’m Lovin’ Wednesday: Cheap and Easy Valentines.

I’m not much for Valentine’s Day. I would much rather have a random display of affection, than a store bought one. Though, I am one for giving cards and gifts. Truth be told, in university I made my friends Valentine’s cards with drawings of cats, houses, and fire hydrants – my artistic abilities are endless, people. Be impressed.

This year, I have a stack of cards waiting to be penned, and my oven is dreaming of baking special sweet red treats.

So how do you impress a girl who doesn’t really care? Go the cheap and easy route. Here are my four top V-Day gifts for under $15.

1. Love Card – Etsy – $4.50
Handmade cards and humor are the two quickest ways into my pants heart.

2. Red Velvet Elvis – Crave Cupcakes – $3.25
I’m not much for sweets, but red velvet cupcakes are my guilty pleasure. If you somehow managed to combine cheesecake with this I may die.

3. Neon Elastic Bracelet – alimonada – $14.90
The only candy I want is arm candy. The mixture of cobalt and gold scream summer. (is it summer yet?)

4. Tulips – Safeway – $4/bunch
Don’t get me an expensive bouquet of red roses when a simple bunch of tulips from the grocery store tied with string is what I desire.

And a special number 5? A kiss – free – I’m sold.

Are you big on Valentine’s Day? What are your plans?
